there isn’t much more in life that I love than seeing my two little girls adore each other….. I breathe deeper and my heart grows each time I see them hug each other or say “love you sissie.” When I was pregnant with Layla…. Oh, man did I hear all sorts of awful things. Why you may ask?
#1- I looked like I was 12. After I graduated from college and was working as a nurse 9 years ago and my patients would say “honey, when you are done would you send the nurse in?” it was sadening. People thought I was 12 and a candystriper. Looking and sounding young has it’s benefits but…. it can also raise an eyebrow or two!
#2- Calli was 1 and I was pregnant and showing with Layla. Why is it with number 2 your tummy jumps to 20 weeks gestation overnight? Calli was little, just a peanut. So I think people thought she was younger than she was…..
I was in the hospital elevator with Calli, pregnant with Layla. I had to run up to the hospital to check my schedule and an OLD-Granny says to me “your mom must be disappointed in you, having 2 babies so young. It’s a shame.” I smiled….. did my best not to laugh and got a good chuckle out of her comments. This didn’t happen once, but many times…. people said things like “bet you didn’t think it would be this much work” or “boy, do you have your hands full.” I must have looked like a fishing boat at sea with my distress signal on. The best comment, I was with my brother in Livingston… we ran downtown for sometime with the kids, 3 small kids and me looking rather pregnant….. and another old woman said in a sarcastic voice, “well at least you make cute kids.” That was when I about puked, no-no-no I was not rapidly reproducing with my brother, NO THANK YOU!!! So… despite many old women thinking I was crazy, I loved having my babies close and I love seeing other families with little kids that are close.
This sweet family, so fun to work with and so in love with their children– they totally had me cracking up before I even met them, their mom said her only goal for the session is to get a family picture not taken by a family member or by us with our arm extended! I hope we did trick.
